LAHORE: Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has pressed the US foreign office to apologise for de-boarding him twice from a plane.
Rasheed visited the family of deceased Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Jahangir Badr to offer his condolences. Speaking to reporters, he said that as a lawmaker, forcing him to step out from a plane twice was an injustice.
He also said he did not think the impending change of the chief of army staff (COAS) would result in any change in institutional decisions. He praised COAS General Raheel Sharif, saying that he comes from a family of martyrs who have given sacrifices and services for the country. He said that the Qatari prince’s letter to rescue the Sharifs had only pushed them to their debacle. Rasheed also stated the separation of Hamid Khan from the case was an internal matter for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), adding that he would defend his friend Imran Khan.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s statement calling him a person of double standards, the AML chairman said he should ask Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to know his ‘worth’. He also labelled the speaker as the most harmful person for democracy. Rasheed pointed out that it was him and Imran Khan who were the life line of the opposition. He also said PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif have made a deal with each other over the matter regarding Dr Asim.
