MULTAN: A newspaper wrongly reported Ali Haider Gilani to be in the favour of enforcement of Shariah law in Pakistan while his actual statement was merely intended to bring people to the realisation that putting Shariah into actions is the solution instead of enforcing it as the law.
Ali Gilani has been wrongly reported to be for the Shariah enforcement in Pakistan. In his address to his supporters on the occasion of his first visit to Multan after his release from captivity, he said that Shariah law does exist in Pakistan in some form and if the people may so desire then the proper way to implement it would be for everyone to start implementing it in their own actions.
A close aide to Ali Gilani told the Daily Times that Ali never hinted his willingness or support for the enforcement of Shariah law. “Ali clearly stated that ideologies like socialism and communism are outdated and he did not agree with the Taliban’s tactics for Islamisation either”.
“What Ali actually said with regards to Shariah was that if it is the will of every Pakistani then the people need to start with themselves and lead their own lives according to Shariah, instead of imposing it as the law of the land,” he said.
He clarified that Ali Gilani has neither any intention of enforcing Shariah law in Pakistan nor work towards any such ambition. He said that Ali’s words were misinterpreted and that he was only trying to make people realise that the imposition of Shariah is not the practical way; but if every Pakistani favours Shariah then they need to start by implementing it in their own lives and live according to the Shariah commandments themselves.
